Report: Celtics ‘skeptical’ they can keep Kyrie Irving

The Boston Celtics have an admittedly murky future as the point guard who they planned to build around seems destined for the exit door.
According to Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders, sources close to the Celtics are “skeptical” that the team can retain Kyrie Irving, though the organization remains interested in re-signing him.
With this in mind, the Celtics are reportedly exploring potential scenarios that will enable them to build around young standouts Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum.
I can help a little… The Celtics have been actively exploring trades, and draft scenarios for players that would better lineup with a future built around Tatum and Brown… sources close to the team are skeptical that they can get Irving back but remain open to re-signing him. https://t.co/uUxWHyYifM

It’s clear that some Celtics wouldn’t be upset to see the back of Irving, but he’s a huge talent and Boston will try to keep him. It sounds like they’re already exploring their options for life after Kyrie, however, especially since they have a young core to build around if that does happen.
