Report: Damian Lillard likely to be interested in supermax deal with Blazers
While many NBA superstars may be changing teams this summer, one looks increasingly likely to stay put long-term.
According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard, likely to be eligible for a supermax deal this summer, is settled with the team and its long-term future and will likely be interested in discussing an extension.
The 28-year-old could add another four years and $194 million to his existing deal if Portland offers the supermax, and Windhorst says they are likely to do so. Lillard has no concerns about the team’s current ownership situation in light of Paul Allen’s death and appears willing to commit himself long-term.
Given Lillard’s personality, this isn’t really surprising. He has talked at length about his unwillingness to sell himself out for a championship and isn’t interested in the superteam phenomenon. He’s comfortable in Portland, and can become very wealthy there, and he seems to be good with all that.
