Dan Gilbert pulls alternate jersey prank on fans
Having just a home and away uniform seems so old school now considering so many teams have a third (or more) alternate. The Cavaliers are no different.
Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert teased a new uniform his team would take the floor wearing this season on Tuesday. He posted the above photo to his Twitter account and gave details on when the chosen design would be revealed. “1 of these 3 will debut tonight at @CavsWGUnited event as a new @Cavs uni. Here’s a sneak peek. Which is your fav?” he wrote.
Not surprisingly, many responses were along lines of “What the heck are those?!” After a little over an hour, Gilbert (thankfully) let everyone know LeBron James and company won’t be wearing any of the above jerseys.
Everybody calm down. We hear you @cavs fans. OK fine. We will roll out the REAL uniforms tonight. And they strong…?

Later in the evening, Gilbert showed the actual new designs.
Are these three better? @Cavs will be wearing ALL three this season… pic.twitter.com/1LdO74wfvI

These are definitely much better. The maroon version includes lettering that will look familiar to anyone who saw Mark Price, Larry Nance, or Brad Daugherty play. The gold brings back even older memories, of Cavaliers teams from the late 1970s. The black features sleeves, which most people have a love/hate relationship with. Gilbert promised they’d be strong. It’s tough to say he lied.
