D’Angelo Russell canceled his scheduled workout with the Philadelphia 76ers this week, according to a report.
The Philadelphia Inquirer says Russell got “real sick” and canceled his workout.
The former Ohio State point guard averaged 19.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5 assists per game in his only year with the Buckeyes. He is projected to be one of the highest picks in the upcoming draft.
There is some speculation that Russell canceled his workout with the Sixers, who have the No. 3 pick in the draft, because he already has a guarantee/agreement from a team that they will take him (e.g. the Lakers at No. 2). In the past, we have seen players who have agreements with one team refuse to work out for others (think Reggie Jackson and the Thunder). That seems unlikely here because the Lakers may be leaning towards a big man. It could very well be that Russell wanted to be at his best when he auditioned for a team drafting high.
Kristaps Porzingis, Justise Winslow and Emmanuel Mudiay have also been mentioned as potential picks for the Sixers at No. 3.
