David Blatt compares himself to fighter pilot, gets memed

David Blatt responded to some criticism on Monday by comparing himself to a fighter pilot, which was a bad mistake.

Blatt received criticism for his coaching moves at the end of Game 4 of the Eastern Conference semifinals Sunday between his Cavs and the Bulls. For one, Blatt didn’t have his head in the game and tried to call timeout when he didn’t have any left. Secondly, he originally did not have LeBron James taking the team’s final shot and had to be overruled by The King.

Blatt on Monday defended himself by saying he has to make hundreds of critical decisions every game.

“A basketball coach makes 150 to 200 critical decisions during the course of a game, something that I think is paralleled only by a fighter pilot,” he said via ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.

It’s never a good idea for someone who is not in combat to make a war comparison, but alas, that’s what Blatt did. The only good thing is it led to a few solid “Top Gun” Photoshop memes.
