David Blatt hired by Knicks as basketball operations consultant

David Blatt is back in the NBA after last coaching with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016, and the task he has taken on may be his most difficult to date.

The New York Knicks have hired Blatt as a basketball operations consultant, according to numerous reports.

David Blatt has retired from coaching after 26 professional seasons to take Knicks front-office position. He has strong relationships with Knicks executives Steve Mills and Craig Robinson. https://t.co/wHSBEjUrMa

Blatt coached Olympiacos to a 15-15 record in the EuroLeague last season. The five-time Israeli Super League champion was the coach of the Cavs for less than two seasons and finished with a record of 83-40 and an NBA Finals appearance.

The Knicks are still searching for a head coach after firing David Fizdale earlier this month, and they are said to be going after some big-name candidates. However, their issues run much deeper than coaching, as they have been unable to put a winning roster together and continue to miss out on marquee free agents. Time will tell if Blatt can help with that.
