David Blatt fired by Cavaliers
The Cleveland Cavaliers have fired head coach David Blatt.
Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported the stunning news Friday.
The Cavs were leading the Eastern Conference with a 30-11 record, but Blatt’s ability to get the most out of the team was in question lately. The Cavs were blown out by the Golden State Warriors 132-98 on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. They also lost to the Warriors on Christmas.
In addition to the bad loss to the Warriors that had many questioning whether Blatt could get Cleveland to a championship level, there have been questions about whether or not the coach is properly utilizing forward Kevin Love.
The Cavs were 83-40 in Blatt’s 1.5+plus seasons as the team’s head coach. They went to the NBA Finals last year but lost to Golden State.
Assistant coach Tyronn Lue has agreed to a multi-year deal to replace Blatt as the team’s new head coach.
