DeMarcus Cousins had a warrant issued for his arrest earlier this week on a domestic violence charge, but he may be having some trouble turning himself in for the same reason he is unlikely to play at all during the 2019-20 season.
Cousins recently underwent surgery to repair his torn ACL and as a result has been unable to fly to Alabama to turn himself in, according to a report from TMZ. Cousins intends to cooperate with police but has not been cleared to fly, as he just had surgery on his left knee on Wednesday. Doctors have recommended that he not fly due to the potential risk of blood clotting, so Cousins is working with authorities to find another solution.
The mother of Cousins’ 7-year-old son provided an audio recording to TMZ earlier this week that she said featured Cousins threatening to “put a bullet through your f—ing head” after she told him she would not allow the boy to attend Cousins’ wedding in Atlanta. An arrest warrant was then issued for a misdemeanor domestic violence charge.
Cousins married his longtime girlfriend, Morgan Lang, over the weekend. A number of NBA stars were in attendance.
The woman who accused Cousins of threatening to kill her also filed court documents in Alabama seeking a restraining order against the All-Star center. She says he made further threats to kill her “even if he didn’t have to get his hands dirty doing it” and once choked her during a previous dispute.
The NBA announced on Tuesday that it is investigating the allegations against Cousins.
