You’ll never guess what jersey number Dion Waiters plans to wear as a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder. Or maybe you will.
According to Anthony Slater of The Oklahoman, Waiters has chosen to wear No. 23. He wore No. 3 with the Cleveland Cavaliers and in college at Syracuse. That number is currently occupied by Thunder forward Perry Jones. No. 33 — if Waiters wanted to go down that road — is also occupied, as former Michigan star Mitch McGary wears it in Oklahoma City.
Naturally, people are assuming Waiters’ jersey selection has something to do with LeBron James.
Waiters was not happy in Cleveland before James arrived, and he seemed even less happy with the new-look Cavs. He reportedly feels that he is a better player than Kyrie Irving and that the Cavs played favorites with Irving.
Judging by some of their interactions on the court, it’s safe to assume LeBron and Waiters did not get along. Does Waiters’ decision to wear No. 23 have anything to do with his relationship with King James? We’ll probably never know.
