Doc Rivers trolls Paul Pierce with retirement gift
Kevin Garnett had a 2008 Boston Celtics reunion of sorts on the set of his “Area 21” for TNT Monday night, and it was capped off with an interview with that team’s coach, Doc Rivers.
Of course, Doc didn’t come unprepared. He actually got in on the fun and playful vibe of the show by trolling his former player Paul Pierce with a funny retirement gift.

Yup, Doc really brought out the wheelchair for Paul.
That’s a reference to what happened to Pierce in Game 1 of the 2008 NBA Finals against the Lakers. Pierce hurt his knee midway through the third quarter and was in a wheelchair as he was carted through the tunnel for examination. That seemed to indicate the injury was serious, but Pierce returned to the court about a minute of play time later and re-entered the game shortly thereafter.
The wheelchair jokes never get old, and Pierce probably can have a laugh over them since he did get his championship ring then.
