Donovan Mitchell stopped to help at car accident scene after Jazz practice

Donovan Mitchell

Few players in the NBA are more popular in their communities than Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell, and he showed us another example of why in between his playoff preparation over the weekend.

After the Jazz finished up their practice at Vivint Smart Home Arena on Sunday, Mitchell witnessed a car accident while driving home. Rather than driving by and assuming it would get sorted out, he stopped to make sure everyone was okay. A Jazz fan snapped a photo of the scene and shared it on Twitter.

Mitchell told Andy Larsen of The Salt Like Tribune that he did not want to make his actions “a big, big deal” and that he just reacted instinctually.

“I was driving by, a lady was falling out of her car, the airbags went off, she was grabbing her chest and I was like, ‘Oh shoot.’ Like a natural instinct to found out what happened,” he explained.

After he called 911 to report what had happened, Mitchell was told everyone was going to be fine.

For a player who is 22 and has only been in the NBA for two years, Mitchell just seems to get it. If you didn’t understand why the people of Utah are going out of their way to honor him, now you know.
