Dwight Howard will reportedly participate in Dunk Contest
A veteran of the NBA Dunk Contest is coming back to spice things up in 2020.
Los Angeles Lakers center Dwight Howard has confirmed to the league that he will participate in the Dunk Contest this year, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Howard participated in the competition from 2007-2009. He was the winner in 2008, when he memorably wore a Superman cape while exciting the crowd in an event that many felt was becoming stale. The league is no doubt hoping he’ll have the same impact this year.
Charania notes that the Lakers will be taking great care of Howard throughout the weekend. He’s averaging 7.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game, and the team will not want to risk injury for a key role player on a potential title-winning team.
Howard had hinted that he might do the Dunk Contest again, and has followed through. At the very least, he’ll ensure it’s worth watching this year.
