Dwight Howard has committed to improving his free throw shooting, and he has an interesting way of going about it.
Howard’s tactic is to shoot 19-footers, with the aim of gaining the muscle memory to help him at the free throw line when attempting shorter shots. He’s even working with a shooting coach, and as the video depicts, he’s actually not bad at it at all.

Howard is a 56.8 percent free throw shooter in his career. It has often made him a liability in close games as the hack-a-player strategy has proliferated.

The new Hawks center isn’t the only big man putting a lot of time into his free throws this summer. It may be, however, that he is who he is and it’s too late to really change that much.
