The 2025 NBA Draft is officially in the books, and many fans feel it took about a day too long to complete.
Beginning last year, the NBA decided to make the draft a two-night event. The first round was held on Wednesday night and the second round on Thursday night. The NBA has cited several reasons for the change, which include giving teams time to regroup and allowing second-round picks to receive more of the spotlight.
In reality, it is all about ratings. The NBA wants fans tuning into the draft across multiple days, and many do so reluctantly.
Several people do not believe it is necessary to have the first and second rounds of the draft on separate days.
The NBA Draft really does not need to be two nights. Such an unnecessary change.

I might be alone on this one, but we don’t need two nights for the NBA Draft.

The NHL and NFL have multiple day drafts because they each have 7 rounds; the NBA has been 2 rounds since 1989.
The NBA will rue the day it catered to casuals by making the draft a two-night affair

The NFL Draft takes place across three days, but there are seven rounds. The majority of fans seem to agree that there is no need for a two-round draft to take two days to complete.
We know one team that probably needed a day to regroup between the first and second round of the NBA Draft, but most executives would likely be fine with a one-day event.
