Tyler Herro appears to have hurt the feelings of some fans of a Big Ten school with a recent statement about his decision to play for the Kentucky Wildcats.
While being interviewed by NBA insider Chris Haynes during an NBA Summer League game between the Bucks and the Miami Heat, Herro got a little too candid about why he decided to decommit from the Wisconsin Badgers and take his talents to Kentucky.
“I mean, I can keep it simple as if I didn’t decommit, I probably wouldn’t be on the Bucks right now,” Herro, who is from Milwaukee, Wis., said. “So I had to make a business decision at the time to go to Kentucky, play for Coach [John Calipari], and now you see where we’re at with it now. So I’m excited to be home. Leave that in the past. I’m representing the city.”

Some fans, however, felt Herro didn’t need to say that, perceiving it as a subtle shot at the Badgers.

Under Calipari, the Wildcats produced several players who went on to become first-round picks in the NBA, and that includes Herro, who was taken 13th overall by the Heat in 2019.
Still, Herro would have probably still made the NBA as a first-rounder if he stayed close to home to play for the Badgers.
All things considered, Herro’s comment doesn’t hold a candle to the wild controversy surrounding his physical altercation with fellow former Wildcat star Bam Adebayo.
