Gilbert Arenas: Bronny James is going to be ‘special’

LeBron James Jr is going to have to live up to enormous expectations for the next several years of his life, and the former NBA star who has been training him believes he is capable of doing just that.

LeBron James reached out to former rival Gilbert Arenas and asked him to work with his son Bronny, and Arenas spoke about the experience with “The Crossover” this week. He described the younger James as “special.”

“Me training him, I can never take any credit for what he does because his son is going to be a freak of nature,” Arenas said. “The same genes running through LeBron are running through Bronny Jr., so no matter where you think he is right now is not where he’s gonna end up.

“The kid is very special. At some point he’s gonna be a 6-foot-8 or 6-foot-9 point guard. That in itself is dangerous.”

Arenas added that he feels Bronny is equal overall to where his father was at as an eighth grader. The hype is obviously there, but it’s hard to tell if that is a product of Bronny’s skill, the fact that his father is one of the best basketball players of all time, or both.

Bronny will certainly have every resource imaginable at his disposal to bring his game to the next level, and having Arenas as a personal training is a great example of that. The 14-year-old finally got his own Instagram page this week, and LeBron took the opportunity to warn the trolls not to come at him. As LeBron knows, his son should get used to that. If he’s going to be an NBA superstar, that is part of the job description.
