Gilbert Arenas talks trash on Instagram, includes Canadian National Anthem joke
Gilbert Arenas is being lambasted by some media outlets who took a clearly trash-talking Instagram post he sent in jest a little too seriously.
Arenas posted a photo of a Washington Wizards uniform and began trash talking other Eastern Conference playoff teams on behalf of his former squad. Here’s what he wrote:
Im ready…..the #DMV is ready….toronto yall dont want these problems…CANADA im sorry but ur players still dont know ur national anthem songz…unless #drake put that in a song…yall just wasting 5 mins of warmup time…im just saying we have older players..and that #bengay runs out by time the game start….#BULLS u better not drop that game tomorrow….or we frying up some bologna and yes were gonna keep the ring on it..hahahaha #trashtalking101 i need my tickets front row #MsJones
As you can see from the post, Agent Zero was clearly joking around about the Raptors and Bulls, who are the Wizards’ potential opponents in the first round of the playoffs. The line where he joked that the players on the Raptors don’t even know the Canadian anthem, thereby making it a waste of warmup time, has caught some writers’ attention.
Slam Online somehow took that one line and turned it into this outrageous headline: “Gilbert Arenas: Canadian National Anthem is Just ‘Wasting 5 Mins of Warmup Time,'” which clearly is taking what he said out of context. Pro Basketball Talk posted a similar headline.
Look, we’re all for publicizing it when Gil does something on Instagram that really is headline-worthy, but this is just absurd by the basketball media.
