Greg Monroe bought out by Suns
Greg Monroe was not in the arena on Wednesday night for the Phoenix Suns’ game against the Dallas Mavericks, leading at least one reporter to suggest a buyout could be coming. That report proved to be correct.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Wednesday night that Monroe has been bought out of his contract by the Suns. Arizona radio host John Gambadoro of 98.7 in Phoenix first suggested a buyout was possible.
Monroe came to Phoenix via Milwaukee in the Eric Bledsoe trade in November. He had seen an uptick in playing time since being traded and proved to have some value. He was averaging 11.3 points and eight rebounds per game with Phoenix.
Some contender could have interest in adding him as he could provide frontcourt depth. The Suns likely bought him out after concluding they were unable to get anything for him in a trade.
