The Indiana Fever are shaking things up.
The Fever have decided to fire general manager Amber Cox, Annie Costabile of The Athletic reported on Friday. Costabile adds that the move signals a “radical” shake-up in Indiana’s front office as the team looks to build a championship-caliber roster around superstar guard Caitlin Clark.
Additionally, the Fever announced earlier in the day on Friday that president Kelly Krauskopf is stepping down from her position as well. As a result, Indiana’s two lead front-office decision-makers are now out of the picture.
Cox was hired as the general manager and chief operations officer for the Fever in 2024, replacing Hall of Famer Lin Dunn. She had also previously worked as a lead executive for other WNBA franchises such as the Connecticut Sun and the Dallas Wings.
The Fever went a stellar 28-16 this season but lost in the first round of the playoffs to the Las Vegas Aces. As a result, Indiana still has just one total playoff series win over Clark’s three seasons with the team.
This offseason, the Fever have a lot on the agenda with major decisions to make on unrestricted free agents Kelsey Mitchell (who was their leading scorer this season) and Sophie Cunningham. Clark herself is also eligible for a new max extension under the WNBA’s EPIC (Exceptional Performance on Initial Contract) provision this offseason.
Meanwhile with Cox and Krauskopf both now out of their respective jobs, the question will turn to the future of Indiana head coach Stephanie White, who has become an increasingly unpopular figure as well.
