Report: Jason Kidd remains strong candidate for Lakers’ assistant job
The Los Angeles Lakers are still fixated on bringing Jason Kidd on as an assistant to whoever their next head coach is.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Kidd remains a strong candidate to join the new Lakers’ staff, with Frank Vogel currently considered the frontrunner for the head coaching position.
As the Lakers head coaching search has become focused on Frank Vogel, Jason Kidd remains a strong candidate to play a prominent role as an assistant coach, league sources tell ESPN.

The question remains why the Lakers don’t just hire Kidd as head coach if they want him so badly and think so highly of him. Forcing him onto someone else’s staff feels like setting the incoming head coach up to fail and be replaced, even if Vogel — or the new coach — turns out to be fine with it. Tyronn Lue was reportedly not as fine with it, which played a part in him not getting the job.
