Report: Jason Kidd interviews for Lakers’ coaching job

A third candidate has been given the chance to sit down with the Los Angeles Lakers to discuss their vacant head coaching position.

According to Dave McMenamin of ESPN, former Nets and Bucks coach Jason Kidd spent several hours interviewing with the Lakers on Monday, sitting down with GM Rob Pelinka and team executive Kurt Rambis at the team’s facility in El Segundo.

Kidd may be a surprising choice for an interview. He was Olympic teammates with LeBron James in 2008, but they don’t have deep ties. Kidd is still a big name in basketball, though, and a former NBA champion. It had been reported that he would be viewed as a serious candidate, so it bears watching.

Ultimately, there are two candidates who are already slated for second interviews with the Lakers. They should probably be viewed as the frontrunners at this point.
