Jason Kidd: Russell Westbrook would be ‘cheated’ if he’s not MVP

Russell Westbrook

Jason Kidd knows who his NBA MVP vote would go to — and who should receive a vote from others, too.

The Milwaukee Bucks head coach said ahead of his team’s game in Oklahoma City on Tuesday that Russell Westbrook should at least have a share of the MVP award this season. He even went as far as to say Westbrook would be “cheated” if he didn’t get a piece of the league’s MVP honor.

“I think he would be cheated — or short-changed,” Kidd told The Oklahoman’s Erik Horne regarding the possibility of Westbrook not getting MVP. “I think he’s got to be part of that equation.

“What he’s done is history. There’s only one other guy who’s done it — Oscar (Robertson). It’s been a long time since that’s happened, so he’s gotta be right there when it comes down to giving that award out.”

The players most commonly considered the top candidates for the award include Westbrook, Houston’s James Harden, and Cleveland’s LeBron James. There’s a good argument to be made for each candidate, as they all have had excellent seasons and contributed heavily to their teams’ success. You could also poke holes at each one’s candidacy too if you want to get nit-picky, or personal like this team.

The math has worked out so that Westbrook is now guaranteed to average a triple-double for the season, which is pretty mind-blowing.
