Khris Middleton’s hamstring was torn completely off the bone

Khris Middleton

Milwaukee Bucks forward Khris Middleton’s hamstring tear was apparently a lot more gruesome than we originally thought.

According to a report by Gery Woelfel of the Racine Journal Times over the weekend, Middleton’s hamstring was torn completely off the bone.

“That’s a pretty rare injury; that’s unusual,” a league official was quoted as saying. Several NBA officials were also said to have been unaware of a player in recent years who had suffered an injury similar to Middleton’s.

The 25-year-old Middleton was given a lengthy recovery timetable after suffering the injury during preseason workouts in September. The Bucks have sorely missed the presence of arguably their best two-way player, going 7-8 to begin the season and ranking below the middle of the pack in both offensive and defensive efficiency (per ESPN).

Woelfel also notes that Middleton has since made his way back to the court and could be available for the last dozen or so games of the regular season if his original timetable holds true. But for such a catastrophic-sounding injury, expectations for Middleton returning to form should probably be tempered, at least for this season.
