Klay Thompson puts playing professional basketball in perfect perspective

Klay Thompson is a man of the people and has not lost sight of that.

Thompson talked on Tuesday about the job of playing professional basketball and said it’s “pretty simple” compared to what others do for work. Here’s the quote, via NBC Sports’ Monte Poole.

'Our job is pretty simple compared to what people really have to do for work. So if we can give them that escape and give them some joy in their life, that's what motivates me to go out there for 82 games.'

Even though they make millions and are famous, Thompson is understating how tough it is to do what he does. Most people don’t face the pressure and scrutiny that he does in every moment of his life. He has to keep himself in top shape, take care of himself, and watch what he does out in public. He has to perform well every day in his job, and he gets heavily scrutinized if he doesn’t.

Difficulties of his job aside, it’s awesome that Thompson downplays what he does and recognizes the importance of the fans. It shows he’s not self-centered, which is not easy when you’re as famous as he is, and probably contributes to him not worrying about sharing the spotlight on the loaded Warriors.
