Klay Thompson not worried about money breaking up Warriors
The Golden State Warriors are by far the best team in the NBA, and that does not appear to be changing too soon.
The team had a successful summer in which they retained Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Shaun Livingston, and Andre Iguodala. That group will join cornerstones Klay Thompson and Draymond Green to form the best team in the league.
With that core in place, Golden State, which has won two of the last three NBA championships, seems poised to win another championship or two. The potential move that many have pointed to potentially breaking up the Warriors is if Klay Thompson leaves when he becomes a free agent after 2018-19.
Thompson, who is set to earn nearly $37 million over the next two seasons, is arguably underpaid. But in an https://theathletic.com/88411/2017/08/23/klay-thompson-talks-kyrie-rumors-chinaklay-his-happiness-in-the-bay-area/interview with The Athletic’s Anthony V. Slater, Thompson seemed to say he’s not too concerned about the money.

Maybe Thompson’s opinion will change in two years when he’s a free agent, but for now he seems to be more than happy being on the Warriors. And between Thompson’s comments about “numbers” and the “price” of winning, it seems like he doesn’t value getting the top dollar over everything else. That seems to be a consistent theme for these Warriors, especially after Kevin Durant took a pay cut this summer.
