Klay Thompson embarrassingly thought Warriors had 40 assists

Klay Thompson

Klay Thompson was so desperate to find a silver lining after the Golden State Warriors were blown out for a second straight game on Tuesday night that he added 25 assists to his team’s total.

While speaking to reporters after his 26-point performance, Thompson was glancing over the stat sheet searching for some positives. For a brief moment, he thought he found one.

“I mean, we had 40 assists,” Thompson said. “That’s a positive.”

He quickly realized there was no possible way Golden State had 40 assists as a team.

The Warriors had 15 assists. As The Big Lead notes, Thompson was probably looking at the number of individual rebounds Golden State had. The Oklahoma City Thunder, who played fantastic basketball and scored 118 points, had only 23 assists as a team.

Thompson did his part to help the Warriors get back into the game with a 19-point third quarter, but it wasn’t enough. And now with Stephen Curry reportedly battling knee trouble, Thompson’s next press conference could be his last of the season.
