The New York Knicks may be trying to shed one of the cooks in their kitchen.

Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reports this week that the Knicks would consider trading away guard Immanuel Quickley. Scotto notes there was a wide gap in extension talks between Quickley and the Knicks last summer and that there is a belief that Quickley would eventually like to start.

Quickley, 24, was a finalist for the Sixth Man of the Year Award last season and is regarded as one of the better microwave bench scorers in the league. This season, Quickley is putting up 15.0 points per game and 22.5 points per 36 minutes (both career-highs). He will be a restricted free agent in 2024 after failing to land a rookie extension from the Knicks before the season.

The Knicks have some other younger guards (like Quentin Grimes and Miles McBride) who may be able to replicate Quickley’s production off the bench. Along with the fact that the Knicks already have too many mouths to feed in their offense, it makes sense for them to consider moving Quickley before he gets expensive.
