Knicks reportedly preparing for a fire sale

Carmelo-Anthony

It has taken the 2014-2015 New York Knicks less than two months to prove to everyone that they are not going to amount to anything this season. Losers of 11 of their last 12 games, the Knicks could be the second-worst team in the NBA behind only the Philadelphia 76ers.

As a result, Phil Jackson is already thinking about making major changes. In a piece that mentioned various NBA players who could be traded before long, Howard Beck of Bleacher Report listed the entire Knicks team.

The Knicks, New York

Well, maybe not all of them. The Knicks will probably keep Carmelo Anthony for now. But rival executives say that everyone else at the Garden is available, possibly even the ball boys. J.R. Smith is the most likely to be exiled, if the Knicks can find a taker.

It has been obvious for quite some time that the Knicks are looking to move Smith, though the $6.4 million he is owed next season will make him difficult to trade.

The Knicks also have some hefty expiring contracts on their roster. Amar’e Stoudemire is in the final season of his five-year, $100 million contract. The same is true of Andre Bargnani ($12 million this season), Samuel Dalembert ($3.8 million) and Jason Smith ($3.2 million).

And is Carmelo Anthony really off-limits? While Anthony has denied it, a recent report indicated he is willing to waive his no-trade clause. That doesn’t mean the Knicks are willing or able to move ‘Melo, but I doubt they’d turn down a good offer. If Jackson thought he was getting fair value in return, Anthony and his insane headgear would be headed elsewhere.
