There has been some conjecture that the New York Knicks may be better off shutting Kristaps Porzingis down for the remainder of their season. Porzingis himself is not a fan of that idea.
The rookie forward, who has been battling a shoulder strain, said he wants – and expects – to return to the court before the season ends.
“Yes, I hope so,” Porzingis said Sunday about the prospect of returning, via Marc Berman of the New York Post. “I really want to come back and play the last few games. It’s nothing we need to rush. I’ll make sure I’m 100 percent, then I’ll be back.
“I’m young, and I always want to be on the floor,” Porzingis added. “At the same time, I want to be smart about this. Nothing really to gain the last few games but I think I’ll be back for the last two, three games hopefully. But it’s not my decision at the end of the day.”
Phil Jackson surmised last month that Porzingis had hit a rookie wall. For the reason, among others, the Knicks may be hesitant to bring him back. They aren’t playing for anything and Porzingis is the future of the franchise. As he noted, it’s not his decision.
