Details emerge on JJ Redick’s first month as Lakers coach
The NBA season is just a few weeks old, yet JJ Redick’s tenure as the Los Angeles Lakers head coach has already been a roller coaster ride.
The Lakers started the year red-hot. They went 3-0 through three home games, making Redick look like a genius hire. But the team looked mediocre in the five-game road trip that followed, which was capped off by a 131-114 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.
Redick singled out LeBron James as the lone bright spot in the loss against the Grizzlies. The neophyte coach then chastised the rest of the roster for its lack of effort.
Following Redick’s fiery words for his team, ESPN’s Shams Charania shared some insight on how the 40-year-old coach has “resonated” within the locker room thus far.

Redick has reportedly been perceived as “nothing short of detail-oriented” and “structured” in how he’s run the team. On the other hand, Redick has also shown a lot of passion and has broken a number of clipboards in anger when his team hasn’t performed to his standard.
Redick has also kept players to a high standard and has maintained a level of accountability, which was seen when he called out D’Angelo Russell for his effort in the Lakers’ loss to the Grizzlies. Russell saw just six minutes of action in the second half of the contest and played a season-low 22 minutes in total.
The Lakers begin a three-game home stand this weekend, which is good news for the purple and gold faithful given the team’s unblemished record in Crypto.com Arena thus far. But with Anthony Davis now on the injured list, Redick may be breaking more clipboards in the near future.
