The Los Angeles Lakers will soon begin their search for a new head coach, and they already have permission to speak to one candidate.

The Philadelphia 76ers granted permission to the Lakers to interview Monty Williams, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Williams, 47, is a former player who has experience as a head coach. Currently an assistant with the Sixers, Williams coached the New Orleans Hornets/Pelicans for five seasons from 2010-2015. They reached the playoffs twice under his leadership, though they did not advance past the first round.

Williams has been around the league for three decades and is widely respected. He was viewed as a candidate for the Bucks job last year and is a popular name for vacancies this year as well.
