Lance Stephenson: I’m a good locker room guy
Earlier this week, the Clippers acquired Lance Stephenson from the Hornets in a move that raised a few eyebrows.
Stephenson is talented, for sure, and has shown flashes during his career of being a dangerous all-around player. However, he also has a reputation as a bit of a problem in the locker room. When introduced as a member of the Clippers, Stephenson addressed that perception of him.
“I’m going to work hard this season to get those rumors out,” Stephenson said Thursday, via ESPN. “That’s not the issue. I’m very good in the locker room. You can ask all the players that I’ve played with. You can ask the coaches. I’m very good in the locker room.”
While with the Pacers, Stephenson put together the best season of his career in 2013-2014. He averaged 13.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 4.6 assists. Stephenson also recorded five triple-doubles. He also wore out his welcome. It was reported Stephenson had a negative impact on Roy Hibbert and Larry Bird was not a fan of Stephenson’s antics towards LeBron James during the NBA’s Eastern Conference Finals last year.
Stephenson signed a three-year deal with the Hornets during the offseason and his first season in Charlotte didn’t go according to plan, leading the club to part ways with the 24-year-old after just one year.
Now, Stephenson has a the chance for a new start with the Clippers. Having established players like Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, and DeAndre Jordan already there should bode well for Stephenson. If not, it could be short stay in Los Angeles for Lance.
