Larry Drew ‘very disappointed’ with Cavs over contract issue
Larry Drew has no problem letting his contract dispute with the Cleveland Cavaliers play out publicly.
The Cavaliers on Sunday fired head coach Tyronn Lue and assistant Damon Jones. They wanted Drew to take over and be the interim head coach, but he’s playing hardball. He wants some greater assurances from the team and doesn’t want to be an interim head coach.
On Tuesday, Drew said he was “very disappointed” by the matter.

Drew isn’t stupid. He’s seen the Cavs fire David Blatt and Tyronn Lue at a moment’s notice, and he’s seen ownership let a good GM like David Griffin go. He wants to get his protections before the same things happen to him. It’s smart business, especially since the Cavaliers are expected to be so bad, which would make him a less desirable head coaching option for any future teams.
