Report: Lauri Markkanen had been unhappy with direction of Bulls

Changes appear to be in store for the Chicago Bulls, and one of their franchise players may have helped nudge them in that direction.

Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times reported this week that Bulls big man Lauri Markkanen was “unhappy” with the team before the suspension of the season and would “rather be elsewhere” if the status quo was preserved.

Cowley’s report comes in the wake of news that Chicago is beginning a formal search for a new top executive to have full control over basketball decisions. The fanbase had grown restless with the continued failures of the longtime front office team of GM Gar Forman and vice president John Paxson.

For the 22-year-old Markkanen, who had been having a down third NBA season largely due to injury, he is probably not alone in his sentiments. The Bulls’ other top star has been giving off a similar vibe lately as well.
