It’s been a bit, but LaVar Ball is back to making his usual grandiose proclamations about his basketball-playing sons.
After LaMelo Ball dropped 25 points in the Drew League on Saturday night, the Ball family patriarch was feeling bullish, predicting that his youngest son was going to be the top pick in next year’s NBA Draft.
“He’ll be the number one pick,” LaVar told Josh Schafter of Yahoo Sports on Saturday after LaMelo’s first Drew League contest.

The elder Ball also confirmed previous reporting stating that LaMelo would play overseas next season in either Australia or China, with NCAA eligibility out of the question.
Obviously, there’s a long way to go before LaVar’s latest take gets spoken into existence. The expectation is that LaMelo has a good shot at being drafted, but it would take one incredible year of basketball for him to even enter the conversation to go first overall. But then, LaVar has already started that conversation whether anyone else likes it or not, and that’s probably the entire point.
