LeBron James no longer prioritizing playing with Bronny?

Much has been made of LeBron James’ determination to play alongside his son Bronny, but the idea may be overblown, at least for the moment.

In an appearance on ESPN’s “NBA Today” Wednesday, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, after discussions with James’ agent Rich Paul, said he does not believe James still sees it as a priority to play with Bronny, but would instead prefer Bronny land in a place that can help him develop as a player.

“The idea of them playing together is not a priority. It’s not foremost, at least any longer, in LeBron James’ mind,” Wojnarowski said. “Rich Paul’s goal here in the pre-draft process for Bronny James is to see if there’s the right developmental organization, a place that can take a young player like Bronny James … If he does go in the draft, he very likely would spend next year in the G League.

“That’s the priority for them as a family. What’s best for Bronny James? If it ends up them together, that would be great, but I don’t get a sense it’s playing much of any role in LeBron James’ decision on next season.”

Much has been made of James’ stated desire to play with his son, to the point that it has been speculated that the Lakers may target Bronny in the NBA Draft. It is worth noting, however, that James has softened his stance and said he would consider his ambition fulfilled if he got to play against his son as well.

The reality is that Bronny might not show up on an NBA roster next season even if he does stay in the draft. The Lakers will not reach on him and are not guaranteed the opportunity to land him in the second round, either. Realistically, James may have to accept reality on this.
