LeBron James gave a fairly honest assessment of his Miami Heat and conceded that they aren’t that talented as a squad. Yes, of course he knows they are talented, but James believes there are other factors that have led to the team’s complete success.
“We’re talented, but we’re not that talented,” James said during the week via the AP. ”We have a really, really good team. We have some very talented guys. We’re not the most talented team, I don’t think, in the NBA. There’s a lot of other talented teams. We have some very, very high-IQ basketball players. And I think IQ is more important than talent.”
James has long been lauded for having an incredible basketball IQ. Guys like Ray Allen and Dwyane Wade are generally smart on the court, and Shane Battier, who has played limited minutes in the postseason, is consistently mentioned as one of the smarter players around.
James’ admission that the team isn’t that talented is something basketball fans can see. The Heat just aren’t looking like a dominant team that will curb-stomp everyone on the way to the title. In fact, at this point, the San Antonio Spurs look like the favorite to win it all. We’ll see if a clutch 3-pointer bails the Heat out this team.
