LeBron James has interesting comments on his relationship with Dan Gilbert

LeBron James

LeBron James’ relationship with Dan Gilbert has been one of the NBA’s most intriguing subplots ever since he returned to Cleveland four years ago, and now James is opening up some about the two’s rapport.

In an interview with ESPN’s Rachel Nichols that ran on Wednesday, the four-time MVP made some rather interesting comments about the Cavaliers owner.

“It’s not about me and Dan — we have a great working relationship,” he said. “It’s not like we’re not the best friends, and I don’t think you should be best friends with a player and an owner shouldn’t be best friends unless I’m your father and that’s my son, and, OK cool, we could be great then. But I think it’s worked out for us both in these four years so far since I’ve been back.”

James was then asked if his relationship with Gilbert would affect his free-agency decision this summer, to which he replied, “We’re going to see.”

Even with the infamous letter that Gilbert wrote when James left the Cavs for the Miami Heat in 2010 seemingly behind them, the two have more recently appeared to clash at times over the direction of the team. Their relationship was back in the news again this week after an icy exchange between them went viral, and it sounds like there may still be some unresolved issues here.
