Is LeBron James embarking on his last dance in the NBA? He is not saying, but he certainly appears intent on keeping people guessing.

James took part in the Los Angeles Lakers’ media day on Monday and fielded an array of questions about his future. Perhaps the most telling moment came when he sat down with Spectrum Sportsnet, where he was asked if he’d be around for media day next year.

“Maybe,” James said before laughing.

James also added that he is not waiting on his other son, Bryce James, to potentially make the NBA in order to play with it. Bryce will be a freshman at Arizona this season.

“I don’t know what his timeline is,” James said. “He has his own timeline, I got my timeline, and I don’t know if they quite match up.”

There is a lot James could mean with these answers. He turns 41 in December and could theoretically become a free agent next summer. It is possible he could choose to suit up for another team, or perhaps even in another league.

On the other hand, James could hang it up at his age and no one would blame him. His family could certainly push him in that direction, and he has accomplished everything he could hope to do in the NBA. In all likelihood, he will prefer to keep everyone guessing.

James has demonstrated he can still perform at a high level. He averaged 24.4 points, 8.2 assists and 7.8 rebounds per game last season, though the Lakers were bounced in the first round of the NBA Playoffs.
