LeBron James still recruiting Ray Allen
We have officially crossed the halfway point in the 2014-2015 NBA season, and Ray Allen remains a free agent. Allen has yet to decide if he wants to continue playing, but LeBron James is not giving up on him.
According to Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com, James recently met with Allen while LeBron was in Miami rehabbing injuries to his knee and lower back.
If Allen does decide he wants to chase one more championship, the Cleveland Cavaliers seem like his most likely suitor. In addition to LeBron, the 39-year-old has reportedly kept in touch with Mike Miller and several other Cavs players. He has also spoken with Cavs assistant coach Tyronn Lue, who was an assistant with the Celtics when Allen played in Boston.
Allen previously said that he will make a decision on whether or not he wants to return in January, and the month is nearing its end. The NBA’s all-time leader in 3-pointers has maintained his rigorous workout routine and made a comment a few months ago that indicated getting back into game shape won’t be an issue.
The Cavs have not shot well from beyond the arc this season. As a team, Cleveland has hit just 34.7 percent of its 3-pointers — tied for 17th in the NBA. There’s no question Allen could give them a boost in that department.
