Report: Malik Beasley had his wages garnished by dentist

Malik Beasley is currently under investigation for alleged gambling related to NBA games, and new information continues to surface about the financial issues he has had in recent years.

News broke on Sunday that Beasley is being investigated by the U.S. District Attorney’s Office over gambling allegations. Then on Tuesday, ESPN’s David Purdum revealed that the former Detroit Pistons guard is also being sued for $2.25 million after he failed to pay back a marketing advance that New York-based firm Hazan Sports Management Group gave him after Beasley signed with the company in November 2023.

That is far from the only financial trouble Beasley has had. According to documents that were reviewed by the Detroit News on Tuesday, Beasley has been accused of not paying his debts to several other people, including a landlord, a barber and a dentist.

In January, Milwaukee-based barber shop Cairo Cuts won a $26,827 judgment against Beasley that stemmed from unpaid debts Beasley accrued while playing for the Milwaukee Bucks from 2022-2024. The same month, a dentist in Minnesota won a $34,390 judgment against Beasley. The dentist began garnishing Beasley’s wages from the Pistons in February, according to The Detroit News.

Beasley has also been sued multiple times by the owners of The Stott, which is an apartment building in downtown Detroit. The first lawsuit was reportedly dismissed.

Beasley has not been charged with a crime, but his free agent negotiations are currently on hold as a result of the gambling investigation. Fans have also begun compiling video evidence of what they believe are questionable plays from Beasley.

The 28-year-old Beasley played in every game for Detroit this past season. He averaged 16.3 points per game and shot a career-high 41.6 percent from three-point range.

Beasley has made roughly $60 million in on-court earnings during his NBA career.
