Marcus Smart fined $5000 for violating NBA’s anti-flopping rules
When Celtics guard Marcus Smart flung himself wildly into the basket support during Friday’s Game 3 victory over the Atlanta Hawks, as it turns out, he might as well have just landed on his wallet.
The NBA announced a $5000 fine for Smart on Saturday for violating the league’s anti-flopping rules, per Marc J. Spears of ESPN.

Surprisingly, this is the first such fine for the second-year guard, who has earned himself a reputation as a serial flopper dating all the way back to his college days at Oklahoma State.
A single punishment is unlikely to make the former No. 6 overall pick curb his flailing ways. But nevertheless, it’s refreshing to see that the league is no longer turning a blind eye to the antics of one of their most notorious offenders.
