Few in today’s NBA are better at embellishing contact than Marcus Smart, but he is not apologizing for it one bit.
Speaking with reporters on Monday, the Boston Celtics guard had a funny response to those who criticize him for his prevalent flopping.
“The difference between me is, I flop on defense, your favorite player flops on offense,” quipped Smart, per John Karalis of MassLive.com.
Smart, who averaged 8.9 points and 4.0 assists per game for the Celtics last season, is indeed one of the league’s premier floppers, especially now that the likes of Manu Ginobili and Luis Scola are no longer around.
But for all of his comical flops that amuse Twitter, Smart does have a point as he made First Team All-Defense this year. That is a sharp contrast from the offense-heavy players like James Harden and LeBron James who usually get flak for flopping.
