Mark Cuban voices a complaint about Anthony Edwards

Mark Cuban has a particular bone to pick with Anthony Edwards.

The former Dallas Mavericks principal owner Cuban appeared this week on the latest episode of the popular “Road Trippin'” podcast. During the show, Cuban voiced a complaint about the Minnesota Timberwolves star Edwards.

Cuban claimed that Edwards steps over the foul line every single time that he shoots a free throw. Additionally, Cuban said that he already spoke to the league about the alleged violations by Edwards.

“Watch Anthony Edwards when he takes a free throw shot,” said Cuban. “Watch when he shoots his free throws. Every single time he steps over the line. Every time.

“I’m like, this is the easiest call for a referee,” Cuban added. “Just watch to see if he steps over the line, and they refuse to call it. [I] tell the league, [but] they refuse to call it … Ant, you’re great. I love your game. You’re a great player. But every single time, stay behind the line.”

Cuban also noted in his remarks that he previously used to complain to the league about Shaquille O’Neal doing the same thing on free throws during O’Neal’s playing career. You can see the full clip of Cuban’s comments here.

The Mavericks and Timberwolves notably met during the 2024 Western Conference Finals (with Dallas prevailing in five games). For reference, here is one sample of Edwards shooting free throws during a game that season.

Stepping over the line on a free throw would foreseeably provide the advantage of a shorter distance to make the shot as well as a more ideal position for a potential miss-and-rebound scenario. That is the first time that we have heard such a claim levied against the three-time All-Star Edwards, who shot 6.3 free throws per game last season. But it definitely isn’t a surprise that it came from Cuban, who also recently went viral for complaining about an issue from nearly two decades ago.
