Mitchell Robinson thinks that he has found a way to silence his critics.
The new Boston Celtics center Robinson went viral this week over a post to his Instagram page. Robinson posted a video of himself shooting free throws in the gym.
The clip apparently came in a response to a fan who challenged Robinson to “post a video making 2 free throws in a row.” Robinson did just that, proving in a video that he could indeed hit two consecutive foul shots.
“Okay, can you get off my [eggplant emoji] now?” wrote Robinson. “Please and thank you Fn #TakeThatForData.”
The seven-footer Robinson, 28, is a notoriously poor free throw shooter. He has only hit 50.8 percent of his foul shots for his career (including a ghastly 40.8 percent last season) and regularly gets fouled by opponents to intentionally put him at the line, often times leading to humiliating results.
While Robinson’s post was a bit tongue-in-cheek, there is obviously a big difference between hitting free throws in a low-pressure, fully-controlled environment and hitting them in the high-stakes situation of an actual game. But Robinson, who won his first NBA championship last year with the New York Knicks, is clearly heading into next season with something to prove (and recently even took a public shot at the Knicks).
