The Minnesota Timberwolves made sure to lock up Naz Reid ahead of the NBA free agency period.

The Timberwolves center has reportedly agreed to a five-year deal worth $125 million. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the deal includes a player option on the final year. Reid had a $15 million player option for the 2025-26 season, which he is declining to sign the new terms.

The agreement was made just days before June 30, which is when teams can begin negotiating contracts with all free agents.

The move raises questions about the Timberwolves’ likelihood of keeping Julius Randle. Like Reid, Randle has a player option for next season that he is widely expected to decline.

If Minnesota signs Randle, the team would be committing close to $100 million in annual salary to their frontcourt trio of Reid, Randle, and Rudy Gobert. If the T-Wolves decide to move on from Randle, Reid will likely become a full-time starter for the first time in his six-year NBA career.

Reid was a vital part of the Timberwolves’ continued success in the 2024-25 campaign, particularly after the team traded away Karl-Anthony Towns in the 2024 offseason.

The 25-year-old big man averaged a career-high 14.2 points last season to go along with 6.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists coming off Minnesota’s bench. He was also named Sixth Man of the Year for the 2023-24 season.
