The length of Silver’s deal coincides with the end of the current labor agreement between the NBA and NBPA, though that can be opted out of a year in advance.
This is Silver’s second contract as NBA commissioner, a role he took over in 2014. His tenure has seen him handle the Donald Sterling situation in Los Angeles admirably, with the proliferation of superteams and the age limit in the NBA Draft the next major items he has to provide clarity on.
It’s no surprise that Silver will be sticking around. NBA owners must be happy with him considering even someone in the NFL wanted to bring him over and take on the job.
