People around NBA mocked Anthony Davis, agent for failed strategy

Anthony Davis and Rich Paul’s plan to get Davis traded to the Los Angeles Lakers did not work out, and those around the NBA are sharing in the schadenfreude.

On his “Brian Windhorst & the Hoop Collective podcast”, Windhorst said that he heard from multiple people mocking Davis and Paul for their failed plan to get the star traded to the Lakers.

“I couldn’t believe how my phone blew up at 3:00 PM today with people mocking Anthony Davis and Rich Paul,” Windhorst said on his podcast around the 36 minute mark. “Agents, other teams, league officials, saying ‘boy, they really screwed up.'”

Rachel Nichols asked Windhorst about the repercussions for the failed trade and offered his thoughts.

“I think the risk profile on this — looking at what the Lakers actually had to trade — the risk profile that Anthony Davis and his team elected to take was a little bit unsavory. I thought the chances of them getting what they wanted were not high enough to the damage he was going to accept. But it could have worked.”

How could you not laugh about it? Paul and Davis tried to play hardball, got fined for their troubles, and he ended up in a strained situation in New Orleans. Meanwhile, the Pelicans tried to sabotage the Lakers, which may or may not have worked.

The collusion efforts and tampering by Paul, LeBron James and Davis were evident, so it’s nice for many to see that the trio did not get their way. For the good and health of the overall league, it’s important not to have stars and agents make power plays like that to force whatever situation they want.
