Draymond Green can apparently sense which way the wind is blowing.
The Golden State Warriors veteran forward Green knows that this could be his last season with the team, Nick Friedell of The Athletic reported on Tuesday. Friedell notes that Green faced a lot of uncertainty at the trade deadline before ultimately remaining with the Warriors.
About to turn 36 years old next month, the former Defensive Player of the Year Green looks like a shell of himself these days. His numbers are down almost across the board this season (8.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game on 42/33/71 shooting splits) as it looks like the league is quickly passing him by.
Working in Green’s favor is that he still has a $27.7 million player option for next season. But even if Green picks up that option, that would not preclude the Warriors from potentially trading him away this offseason.
A four-time champion and an obvious longtime core member of the Golden State franchise, Green was actively shopped by the Warriors in trade talks ahead of the Feb. 5 deadline. Green himself even indicated at one point that he felt like he might get traded.
If Golden State does end up getting rid of Green this summer, it would be interesting to see if he decides to suit up for a new team or simply opts to retire. After all, Green is already thinking about some of the bizarre things he would like to do after his playing career is over.
