The Orlando Magic announced a surprising move on Tuesday.

The Magic said that they had waived big man Bol Bol, who started 33 of 70 games for the team last season.

Bol Bol, who is the son of the late former two-time NBA block champion Manute Bol, had been traded to the Magic last year. He spent the first three seasons of his career with the Denver Nuggets before being sent to Boston in a three-team trade, and then later dealt to Orlando.

For the Magic last season, Bol Bol averaged 9.1, 5.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks on 54.6 percent shooting in 21.5 minutes per game.

Orlando re-signed Mo Wagner and added Joe Ingles, so they ran out of room for Bol and have waived him. The 7-foot-2 big man will have a good chance of being claimed off waivers.
